A Word About Our Prayer Ropes From ages past all monastics have labored to support themselves by the work of their own hands. One such handicraft is the making of prayer ropes to assist the faithful in their personal prayers. Following this tradition, and as a means of generating income for the building of the new monastery catholicon, we offer these many varieties of prayer ropes. In addition to the traditional knotted ropes, made of both 100% wool yarn and satin cord, we include beaded prayer ropes of semi-precious stone and of wood. |

Traditional 100% Wool The knotted wool prayer ropes are carefully hand-made by the sisters, using 2-ply, 3-ply and 4-ply yarn. 2-ply yarn makes a smaller knot, and also shortens the overall length; it comes in a variety of colors (see below). 3-ply "Athos" wool comes only in black. 4-ply is the thickest wool and makes the largest knots. Payer ropes can be custom ordered in any of the colors or styles shown below. Russian Style Russian prayer ropes are adorned with a tassel and incorporate a distinctive bead after every 10 knots. The 33-knot prayer ropes have a hanging cross & tassel or can be made as a bracelet with 2 beads on either side of a knotted cross (no tassel).Greek Style Greek prayer ropes are joined with a compact knotted cross, without a tassel, and have distinctive beads after every 25 knots (50 & 100-knot) or every 50 knots (150 & 300). The 33-knot can be made as a bracelet with a single bead, a silver cross bead, (see photo with the Satin Prayer Ropes) or with a hanging cross. Additional accent and faceted beads can be added to the Greek-style prayer ropes for an extra $1.50. See photo #1 above.

As a note, the wool ply does not change the cost.
*2-ply yarn will make a 33-knot that fits a petite wrist, 3-ply
yarn a medium-sized wrist and the 4-ply a larger wrist.

Satin Cord Prayer Ropes These delightful prayer ropes are available in the Russian or Greek style as described above. Chose from the selection of colors below. Satin bracelet prayer ropes have 33 knots and are distinctively joined with a "Mother of God" cross-bead, accented with two additional spacer-beads. |

Wooden Prayer Ropes We are pleased to introduce this new line of prayer ropes made by the sisters of hand-carved wooden beads, from olive, black ebony, tiger ebony, mamalis and buri wood, all available in a variety of bead sizes. In addition to the standard lengths — 33-bead, 50-bead, 100-bead — we also offer 12-bead finger prayer ropes and 300-bead lengths. (These 300-wooden bead prayer ropes are a nice economical alternative to the knotted type.) Notable too are the distinctive cross-beads, made from the seed of the buri tree. Unless otherwise specified, these attractive cross-beads are spaced in the following manner: 33-bead after every 11 beads; 50-bead after every 10 beads; 100-bead, after every 25 beads; 300-bead, after every 100 beads. All prayer ropes are adorned with a wooden pendant cross. |

Tiger Ebony & Black Ebony Tiger Ebony is a dark brown wood, with lighter brown hues running throughout. Black Ebony is a deep, classic black wood.As an alternative, the ebony prayer bracelets are available with a custom made “antique gold” cross bead and accents as shown at right (photo #5). |

Bethlehem Olive Wood Our olive wood beads are made by an Orthodox family in Bethlehem. We are pleased to offer the work of their hands, and to support in a small way their struggle in that troubled hear of the Orthodox world. The prayer ropes themselves were made by the sisters. Particular to the olive wood series is the additional 10-mm bead, appreciated especially by men looking for a hefty prayer rope they can easily run through their fingers. Prayer ropes with the 10-mm beads include oval beads to mark each section; prayer ropes with the 6-mm and 8-mm beads are enhanced with brown, buri seed cross-beads. |

Semi-Precious Stone Prayer Ropes We first developed wrist stone prayer bracelets for women in the business world, as a way for them to pray with a prayer rope without drawing attention. We are now offering these attractive natural stones as full-length prayer ropes as well. The bracelets are embellished with sterling silver accents and a sterling silver cross-bead that gently sparkles with Swiss marcasite. The 50 and 100-stone prayer ropes also have sterling silver accents, the "Mother of God" cross bead and a delicate corded tassel. All aventurine and malachite prayer ropes are embellished with a beautiful aventurine cross-bead instead of sterling silver. |
